Frustrations with Yahoo!

Okay, so I signed up with Flickr so that I could post shots on to Ravelry.com. Sounds easy enough doesn’t it? Well, it was until I forgot my Yahoo! ID. 132 attempts (yes, that’s how many I tried) at their self-help retrieval service and I thought it was time to engage human assistance.

Silly Kathy.

Their automated response went something like this “We can only match against the details you provided when you signed up… blah blah blah”. This is exactly what the self-help page. So why on earth employ PEOPLE when they can’t do any more than a script?

Not to be deterred, I again sent them an email explaining the situation and asking why they, as PEOPLE could not do more than the script (oh, and what would happen to my existing images if I had to sign up again). Wait for it, this is funny.

I got THE SAME text in the email as the first time around.

Wait, you ask, have you emailed them a third time, just to verify that they really do employ monkeys? Yes. We’ll wait and see what the outcome is…..

And the moral to this story children? PEOPLE should be able to add more value than a script. If not, replace the PERSON with a script. Grr. Grr.

Epilogue

My call was finally referred to Flickr, who within about 12 hours were able to tell me what Yahoo! ID my Flickr account was associated with. Hooray! Logged back in and all is good! Haha, and I even got a standard response when I sent a thank you note to them….. Now it’s off to Facebook for some human contact. Oh wait…..
